31 Days- Day 4: Bye Danny...

If you're not an American Idol fan, you might not know or care who this is...his name is Danny Gokey and he was my sentimental favorite contestant on Idol. (Adam Lambert, the other top contender and fan favorite, is a kick to watch and is a monster talent, but Danny was still my favorite) Danny was voted off the show tonight just shy of the finale and it was a real shock...he is wonderful and was widely considered a shoe in for the finale at least. But the field was full of true talent this year and each week was a real joy to watch. If you've never watched Idol or don't care for reality shows, I understand...but I have always liked Idol because it is about music, talent, singing...not sex and pseudo drama and some of the other ridiculous stuff that is part and parcel of most reality TV. Anyway...I know this is NOT the last we will hear from Danny - he will no doubt get a record deal. I personally hope he will do a contemporary Christian album...he is a music minister, and it would be awesome to hear his bluesy style signing praises to the Lord...we'll see... Anyway, I just wanted to put up a little tribute to him, singing "What Hurts the Most" by Rascal Flatts - it was one of my favorite performances of his this season... the You Tube "video" is only audio, but that almost makes it more powerful to just listen to the quality of his voice...

So....how to segue to Proverbs from American Idol...? Well, all I can say is that Proverbs is intensely practical and has application for every part of our lives...even how we spend our leisure time...even what or who we may idolize....hmmm...

So it's Day 4 of the 31 Day Challenge, and I have read Proverbs Chapter 4 (The Message version this time) and have the following verses to share:

"Above all and before all, do this: Get Wisdom! Write this at the top of your list: Get Understanding! Throw your arms around her—believe me, you won't regret it; never let her go—she'll make your life glorious. She'll garland your life with grace, she'll festoon your days with beauty."
Proverbs 4:7-9 (The Message)

"...festoon your days with beauty" I love how the Message version phrases some things. So how can wisdom and understanding do that..."make your life glorious"...? I don't have any brilliant answer here...I'm learning and searching...but it might be that seeking out and heeding the wisdom from God's Word simply helps you to make better choices...big ones and small ones...and then you reap more joy and peace in your life as a result of those better choices. I know that it doesn't make your life easy or trouble-free...but perhaps it helps you deal with the times when it's tough or the choices are murky and unclear. I know this...I need that...not just for the next 31 days, but for my whole life...

  1. I didn't know who they voted off as I haven't been following very closely this year. I did like Danny though. :(
Thanks for the kind words you left on my blog. Come back any time!

  2. Becky I'm sitting here in a puddle of tears. You see my precious hubby suddenly passed away this past Oct, seven months ago today. The 14th of every month is very difficult for me. I can hardly believe it has been so long, as it all seems only yesterday. I adore Danny, and AI, and this song is sooooo gorgeous and meaningful to me. I honestly don't know how America voted him off the show last night, but it doesn't really matter, as he will go on to greatness. Loved your post, and thanks for the song. ♥

I was very disappointed to see him leave as well. We lost our daughter in an accident January of last year, so my heart wrapped around him from the beginning...plus, he can actually sing! He was my fave to win, although I knew no one really stood a chance against the showmanship of Adam and the judges bias toward Adam. But I consoled myself this way: apparently American Idol wasn't God's best for Danny! I wish Danny much joy and success in lending his talent to God's work.
