National Donut Day 2011!!
Yes folks, today is National Donut Day in America! It's true! National Donut Day was started in 1938 by the Salvation Army to honor the women who served donuts to soldiers during WWI.
So, who am I to scoff at such a renowned holiday with such noble beginnings? No, I will embrace National Donut Day and celebrate it with all the revelry and donut consuming that the day affords!
Who's with me!!??
What's your favorite donut? Plain glazed (yep, that's mine), cake, powdered sugar, chocolate, donut holes, fancy eclairs, what? Do tell...and go out and have one of your favorites in honor of those awesome donut-serving women and their selfless acts on behalf of the troops!!
:o)
Oh my yes, I'm with you all the way!! I discovered a new donut that is made in these cute little donut pans and baked. Lot less calories and they actually are very good as long as you don't compare them to a deep fat fried donut. I can even make them with Splenda for my diabetic husband! National Donut Day is a WONDERFUL day!!
ReplyDeleteOh my, good thing I was in the dark about this! lol.
ReplyDeleteWe celebrated a day or two early. Pop went to the Flea Market Wednesday, and when he came home, he had a whole box of delicious donuts. Our deli in WalMart makes they daily now, and he knows how I love them, but a whole box.We didn't need to eat all of those. We're watching our weight, you know. But no harm done. My Mom and Siter were here for a visit that day, so we all enjoyed a nice fresh Donut together.Early!
ReplyDeleteNot a single donut showed up around here yesterday. Too bad :)
ReplyDeleteLoving your picture! I'll take one of each~
I totally missed the donut day memo! Oh no! Hee! Hee! Frosted sprinkles are my favorite.
ReplyDeleteYour illustration turned out beautifully!
