Illustration Friday: Escape

No time whatsoever this week for anything new for Illustration Friday - so I pulled out an ancient charcoal that I did in art class 10 years ago - seemed to fit the escape theme and shows a quite *different* style for me. I'm sure it was some kind of commentary on the ubiquitous nature of technology and how it was imprisoning people...blah, blah, blah. I have no idea what I was thinking :o)

Meanwhile, my thoughts and prayers turn homeward to Houston and Beaumont Texas tonight as my entire immediate and extended family are in the direct path of Rita. Most are hunkered down fairly well inland with ample supplies, but it's sure to be a rough ride. Im praying that they will escape harm....

"Keep me safe, O God, for in you I take refuge."
(Psalm 16:1)

  3. It may be an older sketch Becky but it fits the theme just right.
I love to see the older drawings and yours is great. Love how the hand reaches for the escape button.

My prayers are also with you and your family in Texas.

  4. A kind of ghost in the machine? This is really creepy and spooky and I notice the Escape key is featured prominently, with the prisoner reaching for it...

Moody and dark, and almost 3D in the way it's drawn - excellent work!

  5. Becky - it's a real treat to see a different style...you're quite accomplished in so many mediums! This is very sci-fi, and a perfect metaphor for many of us, I'm sure! How many hours seems to just disappear when we're sucked into the computer doing whatever it is we do...

Prayers and good thoughts for you and your family in Texas.

I am so glad to hear Rita has dropped to a 3. Still bad, but maybe she will keep dropping. ^prayers^

  8. Oh, I love your charcoal drawing. I also love the umbrella.

Please let us know how your Texas pals are. I know Houston came away ok, but Beaumont...let us know!
